Volume 8, No. 2: Section 3
We've heard you! Though we've not fully digested the wealth of responses to the recent survey of SELAM International News. Thus, in the months ahead, you'll see this published electronically in shorter versions three times a year. (No more wheelbarrow, Roberta.) You'll find Regular Features spread over the three issues, and Special Features in all three. Notable and Quotable should appear in all three - we all need some humor, inspiration, and notification of "thumps on the head."
Both the outgoing and incoming Presidents take turns, one presenting past accomplishments, and one focusing on building on these accomplishments. Check out Notable for some history related to the 100th Anniversary of Susan B. Anthony's death for a little related irony.
In this issue Dr. Susan runs Code O. Resuscitate your life from Overwhelm, the dreaded chronic disease that has a predominance in the female gender. Leilani Doty instituted the code within minutes of reading it. Tori Odhner followed suit. I myself have put it on my "To Do" list (shame! But what's a Master's in Epidemiology to do as she tries not to miss another deadline allowing graduation?). I wanted to put a box around "the space," while Leilani wanted to point a finger to it. Read Dr. Susan's article to see what your level of comfort is with "the space."
The Physician Executive's Coach David Bachrach tells us how to ace that interview. Read it before your next interview for that leadership position. Page Morahan and Judith Katz continue their series of Strategic Career Planning with the next step: responding to that "music to your ears" question, "What does the offer need to be for you to accept?" Learn how to negotiate that WIN: WIN solution.
Leilani Doty builds on Christopher Avery's advice in Issues in the Workplace. Have you tired yet of hearing that the only person you can ever hope to change is yourself? Even if you have, you'll find nuggets in "Changing Interactions." In "Raising Your Team Performance," Leilani scripts a great scenario from real life.
This issue features Book Reviews, reports on the ADEA and AAMC meetings, a memo that Saralyn Mark wanted to share with us, and a dynamite "Lessons Learned" from one of the Learning Communities in the current ELAM Class.
Enjoy!
